Sultan Middle School

On Saturday, the Cross Country team joined the High School Team and ran the John Payne invite. The team raced again other middle schools along with running clubs making that 193 kids in one single race. Weston Stenbak ran an incredible race finishing in 18th with a new PR. Jayden Dillahunt also had a strong race with a new PR for the season by two minutes. Lyla Nicewanner finished first for our girls with shedding three minutes off her previous time. Nellie Enquist also had a great finish with taking three minutes off her time. Great job to everyone who ran Saturday!

There will be an Evacuation Drill up Love's Hill starting at 9:30am on Wednesday, October 4th. This drill is for all students and staff of Sultan School District. Students please dress appropriately for the evacuation drill. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a sweatshirt or jacket. Should the drill be postponed due to inclement weather, the decision would be made by 8:30am on the day of the drill and posted on the district website (http://sultanschools.org) letting people know that it has been cancelled and may be rescheduled in the spring of 2023. Sultan Middle School Football team preparing for their game against Kings yesterday. They battled Kings to a 19-6 loss but they played well and we are so proud of them!

Sultan High School has a new weekend schedule for the field: Closed Monday through Thursday after practices Closed Friday at dusk or after football games Open Saturday from 7:15 Sunday:15 pm Closed Sunday This change was decided at the September 25th, 2023 board meeting. SMS Games this week: Volleyball games at 3:15/4:15/5:15. 9/25 Home vs. Coupeville. 9/27 Home vs. Whidbey. Football has a game 9/28 Home vs. Kings at 3:45pm. Cross Country has a meet on 9/28 at Granite Falls at 3:30pm.

Students are expected to arrive at school with laptops fully charged. Please encourage your student to plug in their laptop every night so they can best succeed in class! Yesterday, the SMS cross country team had their first meet. We raced at Fort Casey which has mixed terrain making it a difficult course. In the men’s, we had Weston Stenbak, Jenson Neilson and Lucas Anderson lead the charge. In the women’s, we had Alexis Tubbs out in front leading the group. Clara King, Ava Porter and Lyla Nicewanner lead right behind. Athletes of the meet are Alexis Tubbs and Jenson Neilson. The cross country team overall had great performances. We will be racing this Saturday at Run of the Salmon. Come and cheer them on!

Sultan Middle School families, If your middle schooler is thinking about going to the SHS football games this season here are some things to know and discuss with your student: -All students/kids, elementary and middle school, must be accompanied by an adult at the game. -Students/kids will not be allowed to hang out behind the grandstands. -SMS and SHS students can get in FREE with an ASB in hand or a pic on their phone. POLICY UPDATE: Policy and procedure 3245 Students and Telecommunication Devices were board-approved to have revisions reflecting an "off-and-away" approach to cell phones and any personal smart device. Only grades 9-12 will be allowed to take them out during their scheduled lunchtime.

Back to School! September 6th for 6th graders and September 7th for 7th and 8th graders. Student schedules will be updated as soon as possible. Our staff is working hard to get them ready. Keep your eye out for an email when student schedules are ready in Powerschool. P.E. uniforms will be required as of August 31st. We apologize for any misinformation about uniforms that came out previously. The price for P.E. uniforms is $8.50 for the shirt and $8.50 for shorts. Uniforms can be purchased online using e-Funds on our website. This can be found under the Lunch menu button and select E-funds:Online lunch payments. ASB, sports fees, and other fees can also be paid on this website. Please call our office with any questions at 360-793-9850.
